Come for the Wildflowers – Stay for the Art!

Come for the Wildflowers – Stay for the Art!

I drove to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park to see the wildflowers everyone was talking about. What I didn’t expect to find was over one hundred full-sized metal sculptures scattered throughout a town in the middle of the park!

Anza-Borrego in Bloom

Anza-Borrego in Bloom

I wasn’t planning to go that far south. Really, I was going to turn around after Valley of Fire in Nevada and start heading back home. But the online wildflower reports and photos posted by my Facebook friends were too much to resist. I simply had to visit Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in California.

More Fire

More Fire

Last week we began exploring the Valley of Fire State Park in southern Nevada. Today we’ll hike just a little deeper into the park and visit a few more sandstone formations, and one that may remind you of a more iconic desert Southwest location.

Valley of Fire

Valley of Fire

Last spring I decided to do a loop around Nevada in search of wildflowers and other interesting photographic subjects. After wrapping up my first major stop in Great Basin National Park, it was time to head south to the place that had inspired the trip in the first place – Valley of Fire State Park.

Underground Adventure

Underground Adventure

Spring is a great time to go places that no sane person would get near in the summer. Death Valley comes to mind. So last spring I packed the car and headed to southern Nevada in search of wildflowers. First stop, however, was a much cooler place.

Snowshoe in Paradise

Snowshoe in Paradise

Every year for as long as I can remember, my friend and fellow Seattle Mountaineer, Scott, has been leading a winter snowshoe photography trip to an area within Mount Rainier National Park called Paradise. Last year was no exception.

I’m Moving! Temporary Store Closure

I’m Moving! Temporary Store Closure

Yep, that’s right! I’m moving to a new location and all of my inventory and print-making equipment will be in storage for a while, so the store has to close.

What is a Wilderness Area?

What is a Wilderness Area?

We probably all have a pretty good idea of what a wilderness is – it’s the exact opposite of the urban sprawl and nonsense most of us endure on a daily basis. But what is it really?

Slot Canyon Surprise

Slot Canyon Surprise

Recently one of my customers asked me if I had more slot canyon images than were showing on my website. It seems he wanted to buy one as a birthday gift. This is exactly the kind of motivation I needed to go back and look through the archives, and as usual, what I found surprised me!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

The new year is finally here, and I’ve heard a heck of a lot of complaining recently about how mean 2016 was to us. This, of course, is nothing new – I hear it every year.

No, I’m not moving to Montana, but the business is getting a shiny new Post Office Box!

Black Friday 20% Sale!

Merchants seem to have two schools of thought about Black Friday these day: Open stupid early and encourage all kinds of bargain shopping chaos, or give employees the day off to go hiking. Well, I’m going to do both!

A Walk on the Wildside

A Walk on the Wildside

I have the privilege of living on a small mountain in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range, and on top of that mountain is a huge urban wildland park. This week I decided to hike in to what I refer to as my “back yard” and see what kind of late autumn photographs I could find.
