I’m Moving! Temporary Store Closure

I’m Moving! Temporary Store Closure

Yep, that’s right! I’m moving to a new location and all of my inventory and print-making equipment will be in storage for a while, so the store has to close.

What is a Wilderness Area?

What is a Wilderness Area?

We probably all have a pretty good idea of what a wilderness is – it’s the exact opposite of the urban sprawl and nonsense most of us endure on a daily basis. But what is it really?

Slot Canyon Surprise

Slot Canyon Surprise

Recently one of my customers asked me if I had more slot canyon images than were showing on my website. It seems he wanted to buy one as a birthday gift. This is exactly the kind of motivation I needed to go back and look through the archives, and as usual, what I found surprised me!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

The new year is finally here, and I’ve heard a heck of a lot of complaining recently about how mean 2016 was to us. This, of course, is nothing new – I hear it every year.

BeerZaar Tonight Postponed

BeerZaar Tonight Postponed I am sorry to report that tonight’s BeerZaar at the Issaquah Brewhouse has been canceled. A Walk on the Wildside

A Walk on the Wildside

I have the privilege of living on a small mountain in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range, and on top of that mountain is a huge urban wildland park. This week I decided to hike in to what I refer to as my “back yard” and see what kind of late autumn photographs I could find.

Visiting the Scottish Lakes High Camp

Visiting the Scottish Lakes High Camp

Last week in Larch Lake and the Scottish Lakes High Camp we talked about visiting Larch Lake to photograph the fall color of the turning larches. Now I’ll tell you the story of the Scottish Lakes High Camp and how it came to be!

Larch Lake and the Scottish Lakes High Camp

Larch Lake and the Scottish Lakes High Camp

While on a backpacking trip in British Columbia a few years back, I asked some experienced backcountry photographers where the best place was to photograph larch trees in the fall. Without hesitation, they unanimously responded, “Larch Lake!”. So when my friend Max asked me if I wanted some vouchers to stay in the high camp near there, he didn’t have to ask twice!

Backcountry Bridge Building

Backcountry Bridge Building

What do you do when heavy snows destroy the only bridge that hikers can use to cross a fast-running and dangerous river? You get out there and build a newer, better one by hand, of course!

Six Years Ago in the North Cascades

Six Years Ago in the North Cascades

Two weeks ago in Five Years Ago This Week I went back in time to revisit a gorgeous wildflower-covered meadow in Mount Rainier National Park. This week we’ll go back even further to some fall hikes in the North Cascades from six years back.

Five Years Ago This Week

Five Years Ago This Week

Ever stop and think about what you were doing a year ago, or maybe five years ago? To gauge your progress or for no reason but nostalgia, some folks including my Mom kept a journal to revisit days gone by. But photos are also an excellent way to bring back memories!
