Happy New Year!

The new year is finally here, and I’ve heard a heck of a lot of complaining recently about how mean 2016 was to us. This, of course, is nothing new – I hear it every year.

Each year we lose some of our favorite celebrities or heroes, while some of us lose those who were much closer to us personally. Some of us even endured everything from major natural disasters to all kinds of personal hardships, no doubt. But I firmly believe that life is what we make of it. We are so fortunate to live in a time in history that offers so many advantages and conveniences that generations past could not even conceive of. Instead of complaining about 2016 and hoping 2017 will be nicer to us, just like we did last year, how about making it our business to make the new year work out, one way or another, regardless of what it throws our way? I know that’s easier said than done, but I think we owe it to ourselves and our loved ones to at least try.

And by the way, don’t discount the healing power of nature to help you get your attitude adjusted. Make time to get out in nature for a hike or other kind of outdoor adventure.

“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”
― Rachel Carson, Silent Spring

So let’s get out there and make the new year a fabulous one!

Happy New Year, everyone!
